The Lictorial Defence Wall

Along the road leading to Verzegnis you can find a tourist sign indicating the Vallo Littorio (Lictorian defence wall). But what is it?
In 1939, Mussolini, who mistrusted his German ally, was ready to face the final part of the war fighting against the Germans. For that purpose, he created a defence system aimed at enabling the Italian troops to battle against the Germans on the Eastern border. The key elements of the Vallo are situated in Verzegnis and consist in the underground lodgings for the troops and emplacements equipped with heavy weapons. Tourists can visit this place, but at their own risk. However, this risk is limited, considering how well the place has been preserved, and provided visitors move around carefully and bring the right lights with them.
