The Red Marble Quarry of Lavoreit

A visit to the red marble quarry of Lavoreit Ros, on top of Mount Lovinzola, is both a trip where you can immerse yourself in the landscape of Carnia and a learning experience where you can find out more about industrial archaeology and the area’s social and economic history.

The quarry, which was opened back in 1922 by entrepreneurs from Verzegnis, is now operational again, and uses the latest technologies for exploiting high-altitude quarries. But traces of how it was in the last century still remain: the workers’ lodgings, the corf track and the ropeway used to transport marble blocks to Sella Chianzutàn.

And the view from the quarry is simply breathtaking…
