Walking past the marble quarry, you reach a quaint valley where the shepherd’s house Casera di Val stands. At half height on the mountain side, there is an opening leading into a cave where images and signs were carved. Up until the last century, people would climb there and pray for the rain. The cave is highly evocative and strikes the imagination, so much so that when you walk in, you are given the impression that it was a shelter for the first inhabitants of the area, a hermit’s retreat in the Middle Ages, a place for esoteric practices and…who knows what else? You can’t miss a visit there, as it gives everyone a different impression. And that is essentially the true magic of Crist di Val!
